Biography: Making a popular return from Barcelona for £1.5 million in 1988, Hughes quickly picked up from where he had left off three years earlier. Not only was he a regular goal scorer, his physical presence supplied much needed aggression and strength to the front line. By the time that he brought his second spell at Old Trafford to an end, leaving for Chelsea in 1995 in a £1.6 million deal, he had won two Premier League titles, three FA Cups, a League Cup, two Charity Shields, a Cup Winners Cup and a UEFA Super Cup. Since retirement, Hughes has entered the management circle, firstly in charge of the Wales international team, before stints as boss of Blackburn and Manchester City.
