Biography: A trainee coal miner in Swinton, was on the Old Trafford ground staff before spending a season at Wolves. He rejoined United signing a professional deal in April 1955. A FA Youth Cup winner in 1956, he made his only first team appearance against Portsmouth in October 1957 replacing Roger Byrne. He was due to be part of the ill-fated trip to Belgrade, being called up as cover for Geoff Bent who subsequently recovered and sadly died on the Munich runway. Jones was sold to Wrexham after his national service. He tried his hand at window cleaning and running a fish and chip shop in Salford before joining a Carrington textile company. In 1977, he went to work for a chemical company, staying until his retirement. He still lives in Swinton.
