Mark Kelly

Clubs played for: Portsmouth, Sligo Rovers,Farnborough Town, Finn Harps (1987-2001)

Born: 1969

Birthplace: Basingstoke

Position: Winger

Biography: Alan Ball once described the Republic of Ireland winger as "the next George Best" which probably raised both expectation and pressure on the 18 year old. Despite rumours of interest from Arsenal, he struggled to make a regular impact. His situation was not helped by a series of niggling injuries and it was damage to a knee that prematurely ended his career in 1991. Later he played part time for Sligo Rovers and Farnborough Town F.C. and worked as head of youth development at Fratton Park.
