Biography: An Irish school boy international from Dublin, he moved to England as a 15 year old. He was the first ever captain to lift the FA Youth Cup when United beat Wolves over two legs, but found his path to the first team blocked by the skipper of the Busby Babes,Roger Byrne. He had been converted from a Centre-half into a full back after joining United. His only first team appearance came against Wolves in October 1954 when a number of senior players were away on international duty. During his time at his first three League clubs, they all won League titles but he never played enough games for any of them to win a medal. He continued to live in the Urmston area of Manchester working in the Massey Ferguson factory in Trafford Park. A leading figure in local football for many years, he died in Trafford Hospital in March 2007, aged 72, after suffering from ill-health for some time.
