Biography: The legendary Welsh international who never played without a tooth pick, came to United after his contract across the City was cancelled after he was banned in an illegal payments scandal. He was made to wait until New Year's Day 1907 for his ban to be lifted so he could make his debut. He helped the club to two League titles and a FA Cup, and it wasn't until he was 47 that he was given a free transfer, only for him to return to City as player coach and continue playing until after his 50th birthday. He was one of the first members of the Players' Union, he also had a career as a sports outfitter but the business went bust in the year he joined United. He later became the licensee of a cinema and Manchester publican, and was also on United's coaching staff for a while. He died in Withington, Manchester, in April 1958, aged 83.
