Paul Merson

Paul Merson

Clubs played for: Arsenal, Brentford, Middlesbrough, Aston Villa, Portsmouth, Walsall, Tamworth (1985-2006)

Born: 1968

Birthplace: Harlesden

Position: Winger/Attacking Midfielder/Second Striker

Biography: Although Merse only played 48 games in all competitions, he did more than enough to win the hearts of the Fratton faithful. He had been a star for Arsenal and England, winning 21 full international caps before Pompey snapped him up on a free transfer from Aston Villa in 2002. Having helped the club win promotion he felt that he was too old for the Premiership and opted instead for a move to Walsall, which was closer to his West Midlands home. He later played one game for Tamworth but is now a regular pundit on Sky Sports, and can be seen on Gillette Soccer Saturday. He also turns out for the England Legends side.

Merson, Paul Saw Merse play in a charity match recently. He was still as impressive on the ball despite a few extra pounds around the waist. The same comment applied to Matt Le Tissier who was on the same side. The green room at Sky is obviously full of too many tempting treats!
