Biography: Wor Jackie died at his Northumberland home in 1988 just months after learning that he had cancer. became coach at Linfield in Ireland before succeeeding Alf Ramsey as Ipswich boss in 1963. Returned home to the north east to become a football writer with the News of the World for 24 years until his retirement shortly before his death.
