Clubs played for: Internazionale, Verona, Parma, Chelsea, Juventus, Fiorentina, Cesena, Ajaccio, Pune City (1987-2016)

Born: 1979

Birthplace: Romania

Position: Forward/Winger

Biography: Signed from Parma for £15.8 million as part of a massive spending spree at the start of Roman Abrammovich's reign at the club, he started his career at the club on fire, with four goals in his first three games, but they didn't quite flow quite as freely afterwards. He fell out with Jose Mourinho in his early days at the club when they accused each other of lying over the striker's fitness for a World Cup qualifier. Then, in September 2004, he tested positive for cocaine, was sacked the following month and the FA handed him a seven month ban and a £20,000 fine. Returned to play in Italy after his ban ended, joining Juventus and then Fiorentina, where he has been since 2006. Was given a further nine month ban after failing a second drugs test, and has been fighting Chelsea being awarded Ñ17.178m as a breach of contract. The club is also entitled to charge 5% interest and he faces another ban if the money isn't paid.
