Biography: Newman was appointed player-manager of Southend United in 2001. His tenure would last two years in which by then he had retired from playing. He moved on to manage Cambridge United, before joining AFC Bournemouth as assistant manager. In 2008 he registered as a player due to an injury crisis and featured in 1 game for Bournemouth. He was sacked in September 2008.
