Henry Parker

Henry Parker

Clubs played for: Denaby United, Doncaster Rovers , Portsmouth (1931-1951)

Born: 1913

Birthplace: Denaby

Position: Outside-left

Biography: Cliff earned his place in the history books and Pompey fans' hearts with two goals in the FA Cup final victory over Wolves in 1939. An old fashioned Outside-left, he ploughed up and down the wing either side of WW2, but rather more unusually, throughout the war years as well. With the added competition for places provided by Peter Harris and Jack Froggatt his outings reduced as the years progressed but he remained with the club as a player until 1953 when he became a scout. Was assistant trainer between 1954 and 1957 but retained his links for many years after by turning out for the ex-professionals side. His latter years were spent in retirement on the Isle of Wight and he died there in January 1983.
