Position: Centre-forward

Biography: Arrived at the Stamford Bridge for a bargain £5,000 in 1938 but had the had the misfortune of seeing his time at the club truncated by the outbreak of World War 2, indeed he scored in the each of the last six games before the war. Served in the RAF as Sergeant Payne and played in the 1944 and 1945 South League Cup Finals. Suffered from injuries towards the end of his stay at the club and was sent to West Ham in a player swap with Harry Medhurst. Probably best known for scoring 10 goals in a game for Luton. Died in Luton April 1975 aged 61.
