Birthplace: Montevideo, Uruguay

Position: Midfielder

Biography: An attacking midfielder who was signed on a free transfer from Real Zaragoza and went onto to give the club four years excellent service. He suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury not long after his arrival but returned in time to help secure the Cup Winners Cup. His second season saw a return of 14 goals, one of which was the winner in the Super Cup Final. His third piece of silverware came in the shape of the FA Cup. He continued the run with victory in the Charity Shield before the arrival of Claudio Ranieri saw him fall out of favour, request a transfer and move to Spurs for £2.2million. Worked under Dennis Wise at Swindon Town and Leeds. He was then Juande Ramos's assistant at Spurs. Poyet has been manager of Brighton since November 2009.
