Laurent Robert

Laurent Robert

Clubs played for: Montpellier, Paris Saint-Germain , Newcastle United, Portsmouth, Benfica, Levante, Derby County, Toronto FC, Larissa (1994-2009)

Born: 1975

Birthplace: Saint-Benoit, Reunion

Position: Left winger

Biography: A brilliant player on his day, who possessed the ability to strike the ball with great accuracy particularly from free kicks. Capped by France, his career was marred by a series of disciplinary bust-ups. As a result of one of these, Newcastle United were keen to offload the unpredictable Frenchman and let him team up with the Blues on a long term loan. Unfortunately his temperament let him down again and at one time he stormed out of Fratton Park having refused to sit on the bench as a substitute. It was not long before he was sent back to Tyneside. Robert has since 'entertained' crowds and club management in Portugal, Spain and Canada. He also had a brief return to England with Derby County but his most recent employers were Cypriot side Larissa.
