Alan Rogers

Alan Rogers

Clubs played for: Plymouth Argyle, Portsmouth, Southend United, Cardiff City, (1973-1986).

Born: 1954

Birthplace: Plymouth

Position: Winger

Biography: Devonian winger who had taken to the position while playing at school and continued to torment defenders from the flank for the whole of his career. At Plymouth Argyle he had played with future Pompey players Paul Mariner and Steve Davey before Frank Burrows signed him with some of the £150,000 the club had received from Steve Foster's transfer to Brighton. Over 150 games and two managers later, Alan was sold to Southend United where he played for the great Sir Bobby Moore. However, the club was suffering financially and he was released to be re-united with Frank Burrows, who by this time was in charge at Cardiff City. With an eye to the future, Alan and his wife purchased the Swinton Guest House in Plymouth, which they have operated successfully ever since.
