Martyn Rogers

Martyn Rogers

Clubs played for: Bristol City, Exeter City. (1973-1984).

Born: 1960

Birthplace: Nottingham

Position: Full-back

Biography: An outstanding record at school boy level could never be translated in the senior game, and he made just one appearance for United standing in for Arthur Albiston in a 4-0 defeat against WBA in October 1977. He was allowed to join former United boss, Tommy Docherty, but even in the capital he struggled to make an impact. After a spell playing for Sydney Olympic, he returned to England but sadly committed suicide in a fume filled hire car in March 1992, in a Ringwood car park, Hampshire, aged just 32.

Rogers, Martyn A reliable right back in a great team. Then he scored with an amazing strike from about 35 yards out at SJP. Thereafter it seemed that whenever he was on the ball in the opponents' half he'd have a pop. Never repeated that golden moment!
