Saward, Pat In early 1973, when Pat was having a lean run as manager of Brighton, I wrote to him (as a lifelong Villa fan) offering a bit of encouragement. To my surprise, I received a hand-written reply thanking me in the friendliest of ways, as though I'd known him all my life. I shall always have fond memories of Pat, one of the game's real gentlemen.
