Biography: Signed for £20,000 in the summer of 1978 from right under the noses of Spurs, but he had to wait until September the same year for his league debut in place of Lou Macari, in a 2-0 win over Ipswich Town. But he was unable to hold down a regular in the first team and was allowed to move onto Chester City. Returned to his native Ballymena to work as a self- employed plasterer.

Sloan, Tom My daughter, who was aged 5 asked Tom for his autograph at the Cliff training ground. He handed her book back, she glanced at it and informed him that she didn’t know who he was, she couldn’t read his writing. It was scribble. Tom was in hysterics.
