Often used as a Super Sub, he did briefly partner Ruud van Nistelrooy in front and played on the right wing for a spell when David Beckham was injured. He was troubled with knee injuries and was eventually forced to announce his retirement from the game. He holds the United record for the most goals by a substitute 28. In November 2007, Solskjaer was awarded with First Class of the Royal Norwegian Order of St. Olav by King Harald V of Norway, the Norwegian equivalent of knighthood. He was presented with the award in a ceremony on the 25 October 2008, in his hometown of Kristiansund. Solskjaer is the youngest ever recipient of the knighthood, usually bestowed upon notable members of society in their later years. Since 2008, he has been the reserve team manager of Manchester United.
