Biography: A man of few words, nicknamed 'Silent Stacey' by his team mates, he joined United for £200 as understudy to Herbert Burgess. A powerful back, he became a regular and won two League titles with an FA Cup win sandwiched in between. He lacked the pace to become an international, but continued to play until the Great War and was released in 1919. He opened his own small business in Barnsley before returning to his former professional as a coal miner.
