Birthplace: Cape Town, South Africa

Position: Striker

Biography: Cost the Blues £1.6 million and enjoyed a dream first season at Stamford Bridge. After failing to score in his first seven games, he went onto set a then Premier League record for scoring in seven successive matches between December and February, as well as starting the 1994 FA Cup Final. Niggling injuries then started to set in, but he regained his form after returning from an ankle operation. The arrival of Mark Hughes co-insided with Stein's goal touching deserting him and he never reached the same heights again. He became physiotherapist at Barnet but was released from his contract in April 2010 having been in the post for three years.
