Do you have any interesting, happy, or humorous memories of Brian?
If so, please let us know and we will be happy to share them with the world!

Thompson, Brian Brian was my brother and he died on Thursday, 11th of May. He was a talented fullback, who unfortunately had a serious injury. However, he was Captain of the England B squad for some time, having numerous caps. His retiring testimonial saw Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea, led respectively by Ossie Ardiles and John Hollins come to play Barry Fry’s Maidstone, captained by Brian, on 27th July, 1985.
A keen Newcastle United fan to the end and close to death, we visited Brian at his home in Essex. Though Brian was not conscious my husband held his hand and said loudly, Newcastle United 6, Tottenham 1, Southampton 1, Newcastle United 4. Astonishingly, Brian opened his eyes wide for a brief moment, a wonderful memory!
Brian suffered from Cancer, but also Vascular Dementia, which must surely be recognised before long as an industrial injury. Recollections of Brian heading away a heavy, wet leather ball, with laces, tarnish our memories of the ‘beautiful game.’

I have some photos, but can’t see how to upload them. Please contact me.
