Fred Turnbull

Birthplace: Wallsend

Position: Central Defender

Biography: A central defender he played in the Football League between 1966-74. Apart from seven league games on loan at Halifax Town his whole career was spent with Aston Villa. He appeared for them when they lost in the 1971 League Cup Final. Injury forced his retirement from the game aged just 27. He is now the manager of the pub Ye Olde Ship Inn at Monkseaton.

Turnbull, Fred Remember Fred taking me to see 'Those magnificent men in their flying machines' at the pictures in Blyth. Think I was about 8.
