Born:

Birthplace:

Position:

Biography: I worked with Alan Turner in 1969-72'ish at GKN whilst he was playing for Wigan Athletic (part-time players at the time). He had come from Coventry City who had moved into the old first division. He then moved to Goole Town and he became their player manager. I remember him as always being well dressed, caring person who was very fit and fast on the move. One of the lads in the office challenged him to a race between the works and the office. Alan was like grease lightning leaving the other bloke standing! Cheers.

Turner, Alan I remember Alan at Coventry City and watched him many times playing for City reserves in the Football combination league, I used to watch all Coventry home matches at the time, and enjoyed the youth team and reserve games just as much as the 1st team matches, it was great to see the players develop, They didn't all make it to the first team of Course. Just come across Alans autograph in my Charles Buchans Annual of 1964 , I got him to sign the inside cover of the book, still looking for a decent picture of him to go with it!. I was about 5 years younger than Alan, I was good enough to play for Woodland first team, but I was a bit on the small side , but could run fast. When you watched players like Alan you realised that they was a big difference in class and ability, but an even bigger step up was required to play at the highest level. Just full of admiration for those that gave us so much pleasure.
