Biography: Cost United £500,000 but it wasn't until 1999-2000 that he played enough games to claim a Premier League winner's medal, when he was often selected ahead of Mark Bosnich. The arrival of Fabien Barthez relegated him back to being second choice keeper but he still managed to become the oldest player to play for the club since World War two in May 2002. He spent six years at Old Trafford before leaving for West Ham, after turning down the chance of joining Coventry City. Upon retirement, Van der Gouw was signed as a goalkeeping coach for Sunderland before taking up a similar role at Vitesse Arnhem.
