Viljoen, Colin Back in 1965 I was a young serviceman in the RAF at Bawdsey Manor down by Felixstowe.I remember the first time I went to Portman Road. I just loved the atmosphere and the way Ipswich Town Played.Bill Mc Garry was the manager. I really admired Colin Viljoen with his midfield skills----how I wished I could have played like him.I fell in love with Ipswich Town and over the years have attended many games through the 70's 80's90's to the present time. Colin Viljoen served Ipswich really well during his best playing years. Yes Muhen and Thyssen were superb and Colin was right up there too. I wish they had played together in midfield but Colin had graced Portman Road before them. How Ipswich Town could do with the young Colin Viljoen now! Have you checked Johannesburg Rangers to see if there is another Colin Viljoen?
After the great years at Ipswich Town it really saddens me to see The Blues in League 1.Whilst I am not from Ipswich I really feel for the Club and the good fans and I want to see success but I cannot see those glorious days of that era reaching the same heights again.Yes,much has changed but it would be a start to find another Colin Viljoen (and he scored goals)
My hometown Club is Exeter City and I love them and want us to do well but it does not give me pleasure to be beating Ipswich Town---I can't get my head around it quite--I'm living in Ipswich Towns past and I'm happy there.I would rather we beat somebody else.
That said I hope Town get promoted back to the Championship but I think there will have to be changes and their game stepped up.
Going back to Colin Viljoen I cannot claim that my footballing skills were in any way comparable tohis but I do share one thing in common ---on 6th December1946 I was born in Johannesburg at the Florence Nightingale Hospital.
I never met Colin but would just like him to Know what pleasure he gave me--what a player! It would be my guess at 71 he's still better than I was in my playing prime.

My Very Best Wishes
