Welton, Pat I didn't know of Pat until he became the land lord of the Old Friends pub in Greenwich. I was part of the football team that played for that pub that Pat also coached. I have fond memories of him and that time. RIP Pat, and thanks.

WELTON, Pat Pat was PE master at Forest School in my time there in the 1960s. He lived in a house that backed on to the gym. He taught us all sorts of aspects of PE but never football - that was in the hands of the ex-Blues on the teaching staff. When my mother told me about his success with the England under-18s, I managed to persuade him to teach us some soccer skills in our last year. It was incredibly instructive. He had a pitch with squares marked on it and his whole emphasis was on swift control, few touches and moving to where you wanted the ball played to. He was a terrific coach - Jonathan Edmunds (Forest School 1960-7).
