Wainman, Harry I met Harry after his debut in the New Empire, both 17 enjoying a few pints. We became friends and spent many social evenings out and about Grimsby and Cleethorpes. As we both lived off 5 ways we often got a taxi home and Harry always paid - I must owe him a small fortune. Great goalie and great friend.

Wainman, Harry I played golf with Harry after he retired, l remember him sinking a forty foot put across a difficult green ! I knew it was going in from the moment it left his putter. I told him to “go
away“ three times as the put rolled on! Harry being the complete gentleman, took all the abuse with a smile.

Wainman, Harry I played in the same school team as Harry in Hull. I was a scrawny right winger and Harry was a big and free scoring centre forward. How he turned into a goal keeper is a mystery. They must have seen something in him at Grimsby. Several of that ainthorpe team went on to play top flight football. Sadly I wasn’t one of them!!!

WAINMAN, Harry My first ever football match was Oldham Athletic v Grimsby at Boundary Park, 28 Feb 1970. Apart from Latics losing 2-0, the other thing I remember is Harry Wainman was in goal for Grimsby! Don't know why! 😀
