Birthplace: Boldon Colliery, County Durham

Position: Outside-left

Biography: Signed for a bargain £175, he was one of the great Outside-lefts, pre-Great War. He scored the first of his 98 goals on his debut. Very fast and tricky, he was a key player in the two League successes and an FA Cup Final victory. He was sold to Oldham for £200 after the war, when he was a sergeant in the Black Watch. The England international worked on Manchester's Docks for many years after his retirement, and died in 1962, aged 77.
