Wood, Alf Was at Chorlton Grammar School with Alf. Cracking footballer and really nice guy. Was saddened to hear of his dementia and then his death a couple of years ago.

Wood, Alf I knew Alf from being an infant, living three doors away from him. As we grew up he tried to teach me to play football, I was useless. He was very kind and looked after me when we went out as a group of kids.
I also knew his wife Joan, a lovely girl, so pleased when thy married they made a lovely couple. Lots of very fond memories.

Wood, Alf Remember Alf at Chorlton Grammar in the same class as me A little hard man. You didn’t argue with him. Nice touch for Manchester City to remember him at the game tonight.

Wood, Alf Remember Alf making his debut for City and I'm sure he scored for City against Shrewsbury in the FA cup at Maine Road. Went to Gay Meadow for replay on my own after school. Lost 3-1. Just been reading his wife Joan's story - very sad. I wonder if Joan's family lived on Greenbrow Road and her dad owned Carter's chip shop? Oh for the memories. Chorlton Grammar v Zavarian.

Wood, Alf Knew Alf at Chorlton Grammar School. He was a typical Wythenshawe lad. Tough, football mad and genuine. I wish him contentment and I know he is fondly remembered by all his teammates at all levels.

Wood, Alf I remember him finishing the brilliant George Yardley's career(Tranmere) with a horror tackle which left Yardley in hospital for a month and losing a kidney. Wood wasn't even booked but the referee was summoned to the FA headquarters where he saw a film of the tackle. It affected him so much that he never refereed a match again.

Wood, Alf Use to watch Alf play most saturdays 68 to 73 at the Gay Meadow, Lazy bugger at times but when he scored it was great he was my hero, after watching him play and as i was going home at end of match and the bakery had just started up perfect Saturday even more if Alf had scored.

Wood, Alf I can remember as young lad watching Alf Wood at the Gay Meadow. Always a favourite of mine, particularly on one occasion when Shrewsbury had a corner and, just before it was taken, Alf sprinted all the way behind the goal net in an effort to evade his marker. These days he'd probably have got a yellow card for leaving the pitch without the referee's permission!

Wood, Alf Use to watch Alf play for Millwall when i was kid. Have never seen a player head the ball like Alf. Pure class
