Yard, Ernie Enjoyed watching Ernie Yard and all the other UK players who donned the Cape Town City and Hellenic shirts. Ernie played in what was a very good CTC team in 1971 alongside other Scottish English players, viz. Willie Hunter, Andy Donnelly, Ken Scott, Jim Forrest, Sandy Allan, Jimmy Morrison, Ben Anderson, Tony Brimacombe, Tommy Claxton, Tony Coleman, Brian Kinsey, Vic McKinney, John Regan, John Keirs and Ian Towers. CTC was managed by Frank Lord.

Ernie Yard My memory of Ernie Yard was my first season supporting PARTICK THISTLE. He signed from Kilmarnock for £8,000. He scored 2 goals in the UEFA Fairs Cup against Glentoran & Brno Spartak. A hatrick against Queen of the South. Left Firhill Jan 1964 for Bury for £8k.

Yard, Ernie I was going through a 'mental' list of guys that I'd worked with and admired; what a shock to read of Ernie's passing. I worked with Ernie at Puma Jersey in Athlone Capetown where he was a salesman. We manufactured weft knitted fabric. In the mid 1990's he changed jobs and moved to Rotex, another company that produced a similar range of fabrics. Ernie remained a great soccer supporter and player; he played in many amateur games and even played in our company team. He was getting older but he never lost that skill with the ball and a strong determination to win!! Like many Scots, Ernie enjoyed his occasional drink and we spent many a good hour together. I don't have any personal photographs of Ernie but I may have a few shots of the soccer team. He was an all round great guy, I've only got good memories of Ernie-It's terrible how we fail to stay in contact with such guys. John D Moloney
